    True Knot Knowledge

Have you ever seen a true knot in an umbilical cord? Most birth workers see them quite often. They happen for about 1 in a 100 births. For some birth workers like me, it took a little over 7 years and 100 births before I seen one. So when this little guy was born on New Years Day, when I seen it, I said, "Is that what I think it is!?" I was the first to spot it and show mom! You may be thinking, isn't that dangerous? The answer is yes and no. A true knot happens aroun

    The Birth of Elby Mae

I adore when mothers share their birth stories with me. All the emotions, preparations, support and strength poured into words gives our birth a voice. Phylicia's story is a story after the loss of her angel son Benjamin. Pregnancy after loss is never easy. The emotions and physical pain can only be imagined by those who have not endured such grief. This is Phylicia's story. "It was a Thursday evening on my induction date and it was time to head to the hospital. We took a

When you bring your baby home

Postpartum time is just as sacred as the time that you give birth. Your body, mind and soul are deserving of all the rest and adoration possible. When we slow down and validate our postpartum time we respect it differently. Postpartum is different when your baby gets to come home. When the milk has a purpose. When every stretch mark and extra pound is validated by your newest baby bundle. Postpartum is respected when your baby gets to come home. When you look in the mirro

How lucky am I, to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard

The nurse asked us if we wanted the babies to be in our room throughout the night or to take them away. Without any question, we wanted them

    Renew me renew you

Spring is always a time of renewal and new life, Spring cleaning is going on, baby animals are being born, the earth becomes green again. This is when I usually take time to reevaluate my choices over the past year. I decide what worked, what didn't, what can I change, and what can I improve on. Yes, I know sounds like like a New Years Resolution, but I just can't ever swing the newness then when everything is so cold and not refreshing. So, I always go for the Springtime. So

Dear Dads - Hire the photographer

Of course it's been a minute since I have sat down and wrote a blog. I'm terrible at it, and I always second guess if I'm doing it correctly. But I'm gonna do it anyway. The other day, my daughter reminded me that next month is Valentines day and in her giggle voice said she's gonna make dad take her on a date to get me some chocolate. "Oh great I thought." (I still haven't eaten my chocolate from my birthday from two months ago.) I quickly said, well Daddy will need to t

Today I'm choosing to give myself grace

My dear friend sent this to me after her session today. I think it's a good reminder to give ourselves grace because we are really super hero's disguised in our normal skin. My daughter looked down my shirt last week and shouted "oh no what happened" still not exactly sure what she was concerned about but we all got a good laugh. But in reality I say those same words to myself anytime I look in a mirror. I had a legit ugly breakdown when I was trying to find a shirt to go to
