Leaving A Legacy

September 28, 2017

I left the hospital yesterday after visiting my grandfather, I had just made it back into Auburn when I received a call for a family in need. Sometimes I do not know the situation, the why, the dynamics of the family that I am serving. All that I know is that I will be there for them and give them the gift of remembrance. When I arrived, I was greeted by the most friendliest of faces I know (you know who you are) .....She took me to the family in need and introduced me. From there I got my camera around and made small chit chat with the family. There was something different about this room, there was laughter, there was joy, there was smiles and peace in the room. Don't get me wrong, the family was still grieving. You see, this beautiful family had been awaiting the arrival of their beloved child for some time. They had been preparing to celebrate the life that this child had been given and the legacy that thier baby would leave. This beautiful child was diagnosed with a rare medical condition and the outcome of survival was grim. It doesn't make the situation any easier, and it doesn't stop your heart from breaking over and over. But what that early diagnosis did was allow this beautiful family to choose life for another human being. This family would donate vital organs to others in need. That hit me last night as I drove home. This child came to earth to save another human. Sinless, blameless, righteous and perfect in every way. What an amazing legacy to carry! And even though circumstances were not in favor for donation once this beautiful darling arrived, I watched as personnel from the donor organization poured praise over the family and child who had so wonderfully became like family. For this family, this was the the perfect way to honor their child.

I write this today, because I know we all have a legacy to leave someday.......why not leave the gift of life. Why not be an organ donator. It's an easy choice to make!  If you would like more information, or to sign up for donation please visit https://www.donatelifeindiana.org/
